Enquiries and applications can be sent to the Pletzer Lab.
Post-graduate / PhD Students
Looking for a PhD adventure in infectious disease research? The Pletzer Lab welcomes Master’s graduates passionate about microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics, or bioinformatics whose interests align with our work on polymicrobial infections, biofilms, and antimicrobial resistance.
How to Apply:
- Confirm your eligibility for University of Otago PhD admission and apply for a PhD scholarship — open to domestic and international students.
- International applicants: Check entry requirements via the International Office and reach out to us early to discuss your fit.

Post-doctoral Fellows
We are seeking exceptional postdoctoral researchers with expertise in microbiology, genetics, immunology, animal models, or bioinformatics to join our dynamic team tackling antimicrobial resistance and polymicrobial infections.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will lead cutting-edge projects, mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students, contribute to grant writing, and collaborate across the department and university. This is your chance to drive impactful science in a supportive, innovative environment.
Current Funding
While we currently have no grant-funded postdoc positions available, we enthusiastically welcome applications from outstanding candidates with external fellowship funding secured or pending.
Special Opportunity: German nationals are particularly encouraged to apply for the Alexander von Humboldt Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellowship to join our lab.
