As a new faculty member at the University of Otago, my research group is seeking exceptional people that are passionate about understanding infectious diseases and are motivated to address and fight antibiotic resistance. If you are interested in joining our lab, please send a cover letter including current research interests, a CV including all published work, a summary of previous research (if applicable), full academic transcripts, and contact information for two-three references to the Pletzer Lab.
Post-graduate / PhD Students
Interested candidates with a BSc(Hons) or MSc degree are highly encouraged to apply if their research interest and experience matches any of the following themes: Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or Bioinformatics. All candidates must be eligible for admission to the University of Otago and apply for a MSc or PhD scholarship. The scholarship is available to both domestic and international students. International students should have a look at the International Office for entry requirements and contact the lab beforehand.

Post-doctoral Fellows
The lab seeks exceptional candidates with expertise in microbiology, genetics, immunology, animal models, and/or bioinformatics. An important feature of Postdoctoral Fellows will be the supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students. It is expected that the fellow will contribute to proposal writing and will be motivated to collaborate with other members in the department.
We currently do not have grant-funded positions available for postdocs. However, interested candidates that have fellowship funding in hand or pending are encouraged to apply. As an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, we encourage German candidates to apply due to the possibility to apply for an Alexander von Humboldt Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellowship.
